In 1989 Jerry and Elaine founded the Vegetarian Society of Hawaii and ran it for 10 years.  With more than 2000 members, it is now one of the largest local vgetarian groups in North America.  Elaine's VSH lectures and cooking demonstrations were shown on public access television in Hawaii for years, and she was often a guest of Terry Shintani, MD on the radio program "Nutrition and You."  She lectured at Castle Hospital, the Honolulu Medical Group, and for the Hawaii Department of Education.  She has taught vegetarian nutrition and cooking for the National Institute of Fitness, the American Vegan Society, and the Vegetarian Union of North America.

Jerry and Elaine are both experts in low fat vegan nutrition and food preparation.  The Health Deli in St. George was owned and operated by them for 5 years.  They currently serve as advisors to the Board of the Vegetarian Society of Utah which they co-founded.

On their website, www.vegan-weight-loss.com, they share many weight loss tips and recipes.  When they lived in Hawaii, Elaine worked closely with nutrition authority John McDougall, MD.  she edited his first 2 books, and she taught classes to help his patients change their lifestyles.
